Caledonian Canal

From Neptune’s Staircase at Banavie, you can follow the tow path along the Caledonian Canal for a tranquil and picturesque walk or cycle ride with a view of Ben Nevis along the way.

Walking and Cycling

There are numerous walks in and around the Fort William area catering for all abilities ranging from the easiest stroll to the more arduous. Take a walk through Glen Nevis along the river and up to the lower falls taking in the beauty of the area. For the more adventurous, at the top of the glen follow the West Highland Way up to Steall Falls.
A number of short walks and cycle tracks can be accessed from Braveheart car park a short distance along the glen from The Ben Nevis Highland Centre.

Jacobite Steam Train

The Jacobite Steam Train operates from the end of May to mid October. It follows the scenic Road to the Isles from Fort William, over the Glenfinnan viaduct now famous in the Harry Potter films, and on to Mallaig passing lovely white, sandy beaches on the way. The journey is an 84 mile round trip. Sit back, relax and enjoy the scenery.

Nevis Range

The mountain Gondolas run all year round and offer excellent access to the mountain of Aonach Mor. With views across Fort William and to Ben Nevis, Nevis Range caters for people from all walks of life. Sightseers enjoy the effortless gondola ride to 2150ft for the breathtaking views and fresh mountain air while skiers and snowboarders use the slopes in winter. There are 25 miles of forest tracks to explore on foot or by bike. The gondola provides access to a thrilling descent of the downhill bike track between May and September. The Snowgoose Restaurant with its friendly atmosphere, varied menu and well stocked bar, provides the perfect end to a busy day's sightseeing.

The Legend of the Dew of Ben Nevis

Why not visit the Ben Nevis Distillery and visitor centre for a tour and understand and experience the making of whisky. Sample a wee dram at the end of your visit. The distillery is open all year.
